Thomas Koch, from the Swiss eZ Systems partner YMC announces today the launch of an open Git repository for eZ Publish. Aim of this repository is to gather valuable patches from eZ Publish partners and other open source developers from the eZ Publish community, either providing fixes for existing issues or implementing new features. An issue tracker hase been set up to coördinate the efforts done.

The next weeks will be my last ones as employee of eZ Systems Belgium. About 3 months ago I finally came to this decision, considering it for a few months already. Turning around such pages in one’s life comes with many mixed thoughts and feelings.
As initiator of the eZ Publish PHP 5-compatible community fork, and later on – as employee of eZ Systems – one of the driving forces behind eZ Publish 4 , I still feel closely connected to the eZ Publish codebase though. Unfortunately during the last one and a half year, very less happened to this code base. eZ Systems’ focus changed a lot, maybe will change again in the future, but that’s unpredictable, it remains a company wich has as goals – like about each company – to be profitable.
I feel it’s time to wonder, if it isn’t time for a community-driven fork of eZ Publish, which can evolve much faster than the current product, as there are too many commercial factors having to be taken into account for it.

There seem to be some problems with the DNS for the eZpedia community wiki at ezpedia.org. We’re trying to get it up and running again as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can add ezpedia.org with IP 85.19.74.82 to your HOSTS file so you can still reach it.

Last Sunday, the 27th of April, my girlfriend Julia and I went to Bruges (‘Brugge’ in Dutch). Especially the old historical city centre with its medieval architecture and the Lake of Love (‘Minnewater’) are worth a visit. You can also make a nice 30 minute boat trip on the famous canals of Bruges.
