PHP 5 Zend Certified Engineer

The last Friday of October I passed the PHP 5 certification exam of Zend, in the John Cordier Academy (part of Telindus) in Haasrode, close to Leuven where I am living. Today I checked the Zend website and indeed, I am listed now in the PHP Yellow Pages. Cool!

eZ Publish 4 – Enterprise Web Sites Step-by-Step

Yesterday morning I received a review copy of the new book eZ Publish 4 - Enterprise Web Sites Step-by-Step from Packt Publishing. About two weeks ago, fellow eZ community member Bruce Morrison posted an early review of this book, which was overall not very positive.

Curious as I was, I've read the introductory parts and the first chapter, called "Installing eZ Publish".

Share your information… But be prepared to have it censored if you are not a partner

Recently I decided to add a one-sentence informational message to the contribution pages and project pages of many of the eZ Publish extensions I wrote in the past, that are still in use and which I’m willing to further maintain and improve. Paid maintenance and support are available, contact kristof.coomans@telenet.be for conditions and pricing. My [...]

eZ Publish: to fork or not to fork

The next weeks will be my last ones as employee of eZ Systems Belgium. About 3 months ago I finally came to this decision, considering it for a few months already. Turning around such pages in one's life comes with many mixed thoughts and feelings.

As initiator of the eZ Publish PHP 5-compatible community fork, and later on - as employee of eZ Systems - one of the driving forces behind eZ Publish 4 , I still feel closely connected to the eZ Publish codebase though. Unfortunately during the last one and a half year, very less happened to this code base. eZ Systems' focus changed a lot, maybe will change again in the future, but that's unpredictable, it remains a company wich has as goals - like about each company - to be profitable.

I feel it's time to wonder, if it isn't time for a community-driven fork of eZ Publish, which can evolve much faster than the current product, as there are too many commercial factors having to be taken into account for it.

eZpedia DNS problems

There seem to be some problems with the DNS for the eZpedia community wiki at ezpedia.org. We’re trying to get it up and running again as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can add ezpedia.org with IP 85.19.74.82 to your HOSTS file so you can still reach it.

Visit to Bruges

Last Sunday, the 27th of April, my girlfriend Julia and I went to Bruges (‘Brugge’ in Dutch). Especially the old historical city centre with its medieval architecture and the Lake of Love (‘Minnewater’) are worth a visit. You can also make a nice 30 minute boat trip on the famous canals of Bruges.
