Braindead Metal Night
March 26th, 2006
Yesterday, Saturday the 25th of March, I went to the Braindead Metal Night at the Bogaard in Geel (Belgium).
The three bands that played – Heartwork, Oceans of Sadness and Cantar – were all great.
Heartwork is a metal coverband. I don’t remember all songs they played, but on their site you can find their setlist. Most rememorable for me were The Throoper (Iron Maiden), Black Metal (Venom) and Burn in Hell (Twisted Sister).
Oceans of Sadness brought a very energetic performance, as usual. My favorites of their last album definitely are Eyes like Fire and Hope is Gone. They also played a couple of new, yet untitled songs.
Normally Oceans of Sadness would have been the headliner of the night, but they decided to switch with Cantar. I was very happy with this decision, because I’m quite a big fan of Cantar’s work and I will also see Oceans of Sadness headlining next week at Olen’s Rock Fest and I also saw them at the 11th of March at the Phoenix in Westerlo (Belgium).
Cantar played at least for 1 and a half hours long. I was a little disappointed at their latest gig at the 24th of February at the Titans of the North festival in Kasterlee (Belgium). They had some technical problems there with the drums and the time was ticking, so they couldn’t play that much songs. Fortunately Cantar was really outstanding yesterday. Some songs they’ve played were:
- Impressions of the Forlorn
- Anthology of Decay (a new one)
- Carpe Mortem
- Crimson Shades Called to the Crypt
- Lullaby of Wasted Souls (a new one)
- Lake of Redemption
- Insanity Kingdom
- Phantasmagoria
The new songs have the typical Cantar sound. To my opnion they’re real masterpieces and even better than those on their first album. So I’m already looking forward to the release of their second album next year.

Hmm, I think you should come to Metalmania festival which is organized every year in Poland (this year was 2006-03-04 in Katowice city, close to my place
. This is really big Metal event (25 hours of live metal music), and really heavy music

Hi Lukasz
I didn’t know you like that kind of music too
Poland is a bit too far for me for a one-day festival, although there were some bands I really like (Anathema, Moonspell, Therion, Everygrey, …) and it’s quite cheap compared with most of the festivals here in Belgium.
Maybe I’ll go to Wacken Open Air in Germany this summer.
