The need for two draft types
December 27th, 2005
The current draft system of eZ publish is partially being discussed in this thread of the ez.no Setup & Design forum. The actual problem is that a new draft is created when a user pushes the “edit” button. Afterwards the user can leave the edit page by using the browser’s “back” button, leaving an unedited, unnecessary draft in the system. When another user tries to edit the same object, he will get a message about this draft.
Paul Borgermans suggested to have two draft types, which distinguish between these stale drafts and the real ones. According to Frederik Holljen of eZ systems this feature is not planned for the 3.8 branch, but it will be implemented in eZ publish 4.0 for sure.
In the meanwhile, we can wait for eZ publish 4.0 (at this moment planned for late summer 2006) and leave our website users in the cold, or we can take action and hack the CMS. I will probably go for the second option.
You can expect some code in January.
